For Barbie's 50th Anniversary Fashion Show, Mattel wanted to kick off the event with a short film showing Barbie through the ages. They also asked for custom video loops to accompany each of the 50 designers presenting.
For the opening of the show, I created a 4 min. film that played on two huge LED walls at the top of the runway. We shot Barbies with a RED camera and macro lens, created ornate miniature curtains that were animated in 3D and combined those assets with a large collection of vintage Barbie commercials and classic Barbie imagery. I worked closely with my 3D ninja to do all the post-production, editing shot footage and combining it with 3D and 2D animation elements.
I then made 50+ loops that would be mixed live during the show, as each designer's Barbie walked the runway. The loops were broken out into 3 style categories according to the show's structure—vintage Barbie, 60's pop art Barbie, and futuristic Barbie.
During the 30 min. fashion show, I live directed all transitions between pieces and ensured that the correct clips announced each designer.
