In 2002, Eli Sudbrack established assume vivid astro focus, an art collective with a rotating roster of collaborators and contributors. He invited me to join him as his first collaborator to make an animated video to an endless loop of the "Freeboard" guitar solo which was exhibited at Peres Projects.
From that point on, we worked together frequently, creating videos to be incorporated into installations and performances.
In 2003, we shot a video to Yoko Ono's "Walking On Thin Ice", which was featured in avaf's first exhibit at Deitch Projects. A screenshot of that video later was used as the cover image for Deitch Projects' book "Live Through This".
In 2004, The Whitney Biennial invited avaf to participate in the show and gave us our own room. We teamed up with Los Super Elegantes to create an installation that had breathing walls, activated by LED lights, and a video that was mapped into the wallpaper. In the center of the room, there was a spiral staircase, where I performed live VJ mixing on the night of the opening.
We've continued to collaborate on video projects that become incorporated into large avaf installations
